tragic: joshua mcauley survived a car crash but died after refusing a blood transfusion because of his faith.

a schoolboy died after refusing a blood transfusion following a car crash because he was a jehovahs witness.. joshua mcauley, 15, suffered life-threatening injuries to his legs and abdomen after being pinned against a shop front by an out-of-control car as he went to buy sweets.. he survived the crash in smethwick, west midlands, and remained conscious, but lost a massive amount of blood and was airlifted to hospital for a transfusion.

How sad. And who’s to know that in a few years, he may have decided that the JWs were false and would never have considered refusing blood?

a lovely young man, who joined jwd after dating a canadian ex-jw as a supportive person.

just wanted to pass on the news.. .

Outcast & Rejected

just wanted to interduce myself an give an quick synopsis.. i was a happy an healthy(ish) young man back in march 08. i was cornnered by a (didn't know it @ the time) jw who talked to me alot about "the truth" and why the world is like it is.

he is a window cleaner in town, hence i didn't know as he wasn't in his suit.

everything he said made sense to me @ the time, but thinking back i wasn't @ my healthiest or strongest so he got me @ my weakest point.

It’s common factor for adult converts to become a JW at a time in their life when they are at their weakest. So don’t blame yourself for that, it happens a lot unfortunately.

Sorry you have ME. I know it’s a real affliction and how debilitating it is. I hope you gain some good friendships and support here.

Close Encounters of the JW Kind...

this morning (like many other mornings) i went to the local 'stop-n-shop' to get my wife a pint - of milk.

she likes to drink a bit of milk during the day.. anyway, on my way back to the vehicle - as i got in and was reaching for the key to start it up... an elderly lady (well... probably about my age - sheesh!

) with grey hair, approached my car with a handfull of magazines - and said something along the lines of.... 'pardon me sir,...'.

to buy a house or not... suggestions, experience, help!

many years ago i bought a house because the government basically threw money at us and the mortgage was pretty much the same as the weekly rent in $ per week.. obviusly that has changed, here in aust real estate has gone through the roof with a house considered a bargain at $300,000 for a first home buyer.. so here i am at 47, thinking about buying a house so that when i retire, the wife and i will not have to pay rent or mortgage at all.

we have to raise $25k more (we have 10) for deposit and fees in the next 18 months to do this.

Another idea is to work out what your budget would be if you were already had the mortgage, and then try living on that budget for six months to see if it’s do-able. The difference between your current rent and what your mortgage would be can be put away to be saved, and ultimately set aside to go towards your deposit.

You will then get a taste of what it’s like to live with a mortgage, without the legal responsibility of being stuck with one.
